Class-5 day pack rucksack. This bag dawns the original label with the reading “Class-5 Mountain Equipage. Designers, Manufacturers & Purveyors to the Public”
This bag has three compartments, one main, one front and a top compartment on the flap.

The bag also features:

  • This maroon bag has navy stitching throughout
  • 5 soft leather lashing squares
  • leather gusseted shoulder strap mounts
  • padded shoulder straps
  • waist strap with aluminum clasp and ring

Class-5 was is  California-based outdoor gear company founded in the early 70s by Justus Bauschinger a designer for Trailwise and The North Face. The company was known for their innovative designs and marketing.

 

Vintage Sierra Designs Terra III Geodesic Tent

Sierra Designs Terra III / Terra IV Tent

Vintage Sierra Designs Terra Tent. I am unsure if this tent is the Terra III or IV but I am going with III as it appears it would  sleep 3 more comfortably.  Here’s what Sierra Designs had to say about the then in a piece of promotional material for it:

In pieces this assembling this tent looks a little bit daunting, but as noted in the instructions it is in fact quite simple to pitch and nearly impossible to mess up.

Very unique Gerry removable clam shell support ruck sack. This drab green nylon bag is complimented by white seem edges, nylon cords, leather pulls and lashing and aluminum zippers. One main compartment with two side compartments. Thick brown nylon shoulder straps attached to the bag via a very large D ring at the top. A nice thick piece of riveted white leather attaches the D ring to the bag and  allows the triangular clam shell support to snap into the back.  Navy mesh backing stretched taut across the concave support makes for a comfortable ride and  allows for the circulation of air across the back. The back support can also be removed to make for a less rigid ride. This back balloons to have quite the capacity but also works well with small loads.

Gerry was one of the original outdoor gear companies founded by Gerry Cunningham.  The label on this pack is earlier as later labels move to the G triangle shape and are marked Denver Colorado. I would estimate this bag mid-1960s or before.

18 tall x  16.5 inches across 5 inches deep (at base)

side compartments measure:
9.5 inches tall x 5.5 inches across x 2 inches deep.

Hip Pack, Waist Bag, Fanny Pack, Bum Bag whatever you want to call it, this is a nice example. This small JanSport USA bag is in very nice condition with some very nice touches. Leather top is accentuated with southwestern design boarder. JS embossed zipper with leather pull. Clean inside with no holes or rips. Nylon waist strap with plastic buckle.

Compartment measures:
11.5 inches across
5 inches tall.

The North Face Brown Label Gore-Tex Jacket

This North Face Gore-Tex jacket is quite the piece. Full Gore-Tex outer and nylon inner lining. It’s as yellow as a pvc rain coat but rest assured its not. Very stylish and still functional as a windbreaker, the Gore-Tex has lost most of its repellent properties but could be treated with an aftermarket treatment if one so desired.  The label boast the remnants of the former owners last name in faded permanent marker. and from the W-L tag it’s assumed a women’s large but it fits like a short mens medium as well (see measurements).

Features include:

  • Two zippered front hip pockets
  • Zippered internal chest pocket
  • The North Face embossed snaps and zip front closure
  • Two-piece hood with compression over the brow and 2.5 inch bill independent of draw string.
  • Nylon/elastic draw cords with  Fastex spring loaded toggles (hood and waist)
  • Velcro wrist closure.

Gore-Tex received its first patent in 1976 and that combine with the brown label would date this jacket late 70s early 80s

The North Face Brown Label Stuff Sack – Small

North Face brown label stuff sack. Very clean, only one small snag to the right of the label.
11 inches deep, 10 inches across.

This stuff sack probably accompanied a vest. In the picture of it stuffed it contains a size medium Gerry down vest which fits quite comfortably. However the uses you may find for this thing are unlimited

This Gerry single wall two man rip-stop nylon tent is in very nice condition for such a classic.  Two pole upfront, one rear makes for quick and easy set up. Corded aluminum poles are all straight and original. Nylon cord and tightener all complete and original.
Internal sleeping area measures 45 inches wide x 90 long. Foyer can be staked on either side to provide protection at the entrance. Bug screen on entrance and rear window.

Comes with 4 extra aluminum U stakes. Ripstop Nylon stake and pole sheath and stuff sack.
Weight: Just under 5 Lbs.
Measures 16 inches long x 10 wide in stuff sack.
