Vintage Levi’s 501 Big E Selvedge Jeans

Levi’s Big E sevledge 501s, no patch. Double sided LEVI’S red tag. Single stitched back pocket, double coin. Top button marked with an 8.

Not exactly sure the year of manufacture on these jeans, but the lack of rivets on the back pocket and double stitched coin pocket suggests these came towards the end of the big E run. These jeans also have a pretty high-rise from the crotch to top of the jean.

These jeans have that great look only obtained with age.  Major holes on the right leg with the knee hole spanning almost seam to seam. Left leg is worn heavily from the bottom of the pocket to the knee. Great denim patches of varying sizes on each leg. Another small hole on the back of left leg an upper right side hip.  Crotch wear is not too bad, though there is a small hole. Stitching is complete still.  Great whiskering around the crotch.  Some stains and some dirt that would probably clean off.

Holubar Tiny Tent

The Holubar Tiny Tent circa early 1960s is very simple, slightly glorified pup tent. The floor and lower edges of the tent are a mustard colored heavy Nylon. The Nylon is poly urethane (or similar) coated, this coating is slightly cracked in some places but in decent shape. The upper is made from a heavy cotton blend. Front supports come from two three-piece poles that fix into grommets at the corners and loop at the top. The back pole is a single piece that fits into grommets top and bottom. Tent and poles were originally sold separately as the tent can be set up using sticks, ski poles, guy lines or an ice axe. The front door is secured by two zippers starting at each bottom corner and meeting at the peak. There is also a fly screen that has one zipper going from the viewers bottom left corner to the peak. There is no zipper along the floor for the screen, the material is instead about 6″ longer to meet the floor and keep out all but the most determined intruders.

The North Face Leather Bottom Rucksack Backpack – Brown Label Made in the USA

Early TNF larger size semi-rigid tear drop shaped rucksack with extremely impressive ergo dynamics.  Classic TNF navy blue nylon makes up the back and sides, while the back panel is made of a heavy cotton. Two hidden rods, most likely a heavy plastic run from the bottom inside points up along the seam between the back panel and side to the top of the pack. These rods bow so when the pack is worn they start near your shoulder blades and end up on the sides of your hips. It pretty much hugs you when you wear it.

Beautifully styled with a suede leather bottom, lashing squares on the side, front and top flap. Felted strap pads attached to dark olive color nylon web straps. Top flap has zippered access underneath. Adjustable clasp waist strap. Large top and bottom hanging loops.

A truly amazing functional and fashionable pack.

Trailwise Berkeley California Down Vest

Trailwise of Berkeley, Calif. down vest in the ever popular combination for its’ day rust and tan. The rust exterior is made of a poly cotton blend while the tan interior is a light nylon. A two-way C&C zipper in black and snaps with a Velcro collar make up the closure. Standard horizontal quilting with some nice user-friendly insulated front pockets. Fine details include the rounded pocket corners and Trailwise label tag. Slight rise in the front rather than dropped tail as on other vests keeps you from bunching up in front when crouched or bending.

Sierra Designs for Nieman Marcus 60/40 Winter Mountain Parka

Unique co-branded Sierra Designs winter version of their world famous 60/40 mountain parka. Besides the iconic 60/40 label also have NM Supply Company (a Nieman Marcus Collection). Other than the branding this is a Sierra Designs Parka through and through.

60% cotton 40% nylon shell with a beautiful red/green/khaki 70% wool 30% nylon upper lining. Heavy gauge YKK 3/4 length zipper down the front with original long pull. Full length snap closed storm flap.  Two Velcro top close breast pockets, two hip warmer pockets also with Velcro top entry. Drawstring at the hood with leather cord locks. Waistline draw as well without cord lock. Zippered back pocket opens up to the entirety of the lined upper portion.

Sierra Designs Starflight Two-man Backpacking Tent – Berkeley California

Berkeley era Sierra designs two-man two or three season asymmetrical tepee style tent. Features a two pole construction. Poles fit into grommets at the base of the tent then connect at the top through and elastic cord with the use of a heavy plastic pin joint. Two cords at the corners of the foot end of the ten running through grommets anchor that end up and out. The body has a half-moon zip fly screen door and Velcro closing outer door. There is also a small screen window on the top of the tent body about 3/4 of the way up from the foot to the peak. Tent rain fly stakes around from the base resting on the peak of the poles the fly door is Velcro closed as well.

Tent and fly are numbered 051302 and 050601 respectively.

Camp 7 Gore-Tex Windbreaker

Camp 7 medium duty wind breaker. Gore-Tex shell in light navy, fully lined with mustard nylon.  Exposed main zipper in purple/grey with gold pulls by Talon makes for a subtle yet exciting contrast of colors. Elasticated cotton wrists and waist draw cord. This jacket has a slight contour around this midriff.

Extremely functional hood, draw string is run between the hood and peak and when cinched offers great closure with no bunching creating a brim that extends down the sides of the face. Leather cord locks keep the fit secure.

Camp 7 was a Boulder Colorado based company and 3rd brain child of outdoor gear pioneer George Lamb, founder of Alp Sport and Alpine Designs.

Truckin’ Rucksack Co. Seattle Washington U.S.A.

Unique small rucksack by Truckin’ Rucksack Co of Seattle Washington USA.  Wish I had more details on the company and the origin of this bag, but I don’t and have not found anything out there. I’ve seen similar packs from unknown companies made in Japan but they always seem to be of a little inferior quality to this bag. This ruck sack is very small, almost child size, but such as the label depiction suggests, my guess is that it’s just intended to be used as a small day pack on  backpacking trips.

The nylon bag is coated on the inside with a poly urethane or similar rubberized substance for waterproofing.  The main compartment of the bag is made from a single piece of material with two wedges inserted on the side. One decent sized zip closed canister pocket lives on the outside.  Top draw string and flap closure. 7/8 inch wide nylon straps are gusseted with a piece of brown vinyl.

The label is screened on a cotton blend patch. This one bears the previous owners info.

Type A-2 Flight Jacket by Rough Wear Clothing Co.

WWII era Rough Wear Clothing Co. Type A-2 Horsehide Flight Jacket size 36. Rough Wear was one of several different companies to produce these “summer” jackets for the US Army Air Force as is was called in those days. Earlier contract numbers from them date back to pre-war, but the model number on this one puts it in war-time production. The label, markings, hardware and stitching are all consistent with those found on other original jackets. This jacket has no art work present on it, but you can see the stitch marks from where a bar patch was sewn on each shoulder epaulet.

The horsehide exterior is in nice shape with no holes, stains, or significant gauging. Nice patina and wear throughout, this jacket appears not to have been re dyed maintaining its russet-brown color. Most significant wear on the leather is in the elbows but all stitching is still intact. The cotton inside is still complete but is coming away at the neckline and armpits. Cotton cuffs have been replaced with a slightly darker brown than the waist and hand stitched to the lining.
