Singer Featherweight Travel Sewing Machine Model 221J

This is a Singer featherweight model # 221J made in St Johns, Canada 1961. Serial # JE154076.  Numbers starting with JE were among the last to come from the St. Johns factory which operated from 1904 – the early 1960s. There’s a myriad of history and information on the web around these machines as they’re highly prized and collected. As far as I could tell the 221J is a version of the 221K, the third iteration of the machine.  221 were and still are prized for having the capabilities of a full size machine, including attachments, in a relatively light and compact piece. Traveling seamstresses, club quilters and collectors still covet these machines today. I am not a sewing machine expert, but  know enough from growing up with a mom who sewed everything to thread and run this machine. It threads much the same as larger, later model Singers.

1995 SIMS Noah Salasnek – USS Salasnek – Noahs Ark

If you were riding in the mid nineties you remember it well, the era when snowboard graphics went from neon splashes to skate inspired middle fingers to society. Twin tip boards over took directional race set ups and Summit County, Colorado exploded into a freestyle snowboarding mecca. Noah’s Ark was the follow-up to Noah Salasnek’s monumental “Skate Deck” from the previous year. Essentially the same board, the 1995 graphics pushed the envelope further. A ship full of unsavory characters, hoodlums, gangsters, skaters and brawlers represented snowboarding’s new direction.  This board is seen with period correct Sims pre-ratchet, full-based low back bindings.

Resoled Redwing 875 6″ Moc Toe Boots.

A while back I came across a used pair of Redwing 875.  The original soles had been worn to down to nothing but the uppers were in good shape. Knowing that they could be resoled I snatched them up for future use. They hung around in my garage for six months until this fall. I took them to my local Redwing retailer to have them sent back to the factory to be resoled. I was as little disappointed to find out they sent their boots to a local cobbler and not the place of origin, but agreed to send them out anyway. The local guy did a great job using Vibram soles instead of the Redwing stamped version.  When the boots landed back in the shop the associate oiled them and threw in some new laces before I picked them up.

If you are looking to get into a pair of Redwing having an old boot is a great way to go. Cost of the resole in this instance was $80 + tax.

Eddie Bauer Rising Sun Label Down Layer

Powder blue, diamond quilted nylon houses Eddie’s best premium down with plenty of loft. Angular EB embossed snap closer on jacket and left side pant hip. Elastic cuffs on jacket and pants with similar trimmed collar. 

Nice and light weight. Perfect for winter sports or winter camping. likely to give any sleeping bag a minus 20 rating when worn for sleeping. set weighs approx. 29.5 oz

 
Based on that the fact the garments are marked large and snap placement is opposite what males are used to  I have deemed this a woman’s set, but it would work just the same for a male. See measurements below.

The North Face Down Camp Slippers – Brown Label

Late 70s/early 80s camp slippers by The North Face. These slippers consist of a light weight ripstop nylon upper, outside and inside stuffed full of down. The green bottoms are a heavier nylon and contain a 1/2″ thick foam foot bed. A piece of elastic feed though the inside at the ankle helps keep the booties on when walking.

Size small – measures 10.5″ inches heel to toe on the bottom and 4″ wide at ball of foot.

Hein Gericke for Hondaline Cafe Style Jacket

This Late 70s/early 80s Hein Gericke for Hondaline racing style jacket looks like something worn by a member of Toecutter’s gang in the film Mad Max and is the perfect jacket to accompany any mid to late 70s CBs or other cafe bikes of that era.

Construction features two offset zippers for tighter or looser fits depending on layers. There are 3 external chest pockets, one left sleeve pocket and one inside pocket. Adjustable waist belt is fixed at back. Adjustable snap close shorty collar. YKK zippers throughout, all working

Ribbed detail around shoulders and down torso sides provides stretch for movement. Back is cut slightly lower with thicker padding around lower back section.

This jacket is fully lined with red nylon and has a thin insulating layer between it and the leather.

Gerry Down Pants – Underwear

Diamond quilted nylon throughout. Gerry’s down filling gives you the “warmth without the weight”. All stitching appears to be intact, still full of down, waist band elastic and ankle cuffs in great shape too.  3 snap fly.

Gerry is the iconic label that pioneered a new era in outdoor gear. Founded in the mid 1940s by Gerry Cunningham in Colorado the company was responsible for several outdoor gear innovations and a leader in quality and technology through the 70s and 80s. Earlier labels I’ve seen are similar to this one but list only Boulder; Gerry’s Denver stores didn’t come about till the mid-60s (so I’ve read). Later logos change completely and list only Denver. I would estimate this logo from the Mid-Late 60s

Alpine Designs Down Camp Slippers

Alpine Designs Down Camp Slippers / Booties

Nice vintage Alpine Designs of Boulder Colorado down filled camp slippers. These men’s size large booties are comprised of a nylon upper and lining, thick Cordura base and bottom with a simi-rigid foot bed.  Inside is a ring of elastic around the mid ankle to keep them from slouching. There is a full, tie-able drawstring around the top of the ankle. The down is still full and pillowy making for some very warm, very comfortable slippers.
